As you can see from the map, we are situated approx 10 mins drive from Arricife Airport, in the quiet village of Guime.
Beaches
Lanzarote boasts golden and black sand beaches. It is extremely important to recognise the safety flags on the beaches. Red flag means that there are strong currents and it is very dangerous to swim. Swimming is not advised in these conditions. A yellow flag shows strong winds and turbulent sea. take extra care when swimming and do not leave children unsupervised. A green flag shows that it is safe to swim.
Telephone
Most local telephone boxes take all coins. For international calls: dial 00 and then dial the code for the relevant country - 44 for the uk followed by the local code omitting the zero. Telephone calls are cheaper between 22.00 and 08.00. You may find that telephone cards are cheaper and hassle free.
Transport
There are regular buses between CostaTeguise and Arrecife (at least one an hour), Playa Blanca and Arrecife, Puerto Del Carmen and Arrecife (every half hour). These operate a more limited service on a weekend.
Out and About in Lanzarote
Puerto del Carmen
Once a small fishing village, has grown to become a major tourist resort. Just 10 minute drive from the airport, you will find everything you need here. there are plenty of shops and bars. A beautiful beach slopes into a calm blue sea, ideal for families. wander through the old part of the town and relax in one of the bars , watching the world go by.
Playa Blanca
An old fishing village, which is now a growing resort, with a small, well protected beach. From here a ferry runs to Fuerteventura.
Salinas de Janubio
On the west coast, is a must for those who have never seen the dazzling white of drying salt flats against the dramatic blue of the sea and the sharp contrast of the black volcanic backdrop. Every spring, for the festival of Corpus Christi, these flats provide the salt, which local artists dye and pour onto the streets of Arrecife.
Timanfaya
Is an area to the west of the island, which has been designated National Park. Covering 50 sq.m.these lava fields are known as the Fire Mountains and are the result of a huge eruption in the 1730s.
Try the excursion by camel to the restaurant at the top, where the natural volcanic heat is used to cook food.
El Golfo
An emerald green lagoon situated beneath a cliff which resembles a gigantic petrified tidal wave. This is the inner rim of a volcanic cone, half of which has disappeared under the sea. Here you find an array of restaurants serving locally caught fish.
Teguise
Was once the capital of the island, but its claim to fame now lies in the manufacture of "timples", the small stringed instruments used in Canaries folk music. Here there are many fine examples of Canarian architecture. Sunday is a popular day to visit the market.
Los Jameos de Agua
Is situated on the north east coast. This grotto, open at both ends, with a small source of natural light from above, bears the trademark of the talented Cesar Manrique, who with mood music and tropical landscaping, has transformed this place into an arena for cultural events.
Arrecife
This is now the capital of Lanzarote,and the centre of the islands professional services, although it has a good shopping centre you will not find large department stores. Arrecife has it's own delightful beach at Playa del Reducto, where you can visit their magnificent restored church. The Castillo San Jose is situated on the cliff overlooking the fishing harbour of Puerto Naos. The castle houses a good collection of modern art, a small auditorium for concerts and a beautiful restaurant overlooking the sea. The Castillo San Gabriele can also be found in Arrecife, this was the original protective fortress for the city, and was repeatedly shelled over the years. While visiting a trip around it's small museum is a must.
La Cueva de los Verdes
Is a gigantic cavern stretching from a volcano into the sea. It is one of the most spectacular natural sights imaginable and the guided tour of 50 minutes takes you through the narrow opening before sloping down into the larger passages of the subterranean world beneath. The tour through the lava flows and canyons, includes a "son et lumiere" section, which is breathtaking to behold.
La Geria
Where the vineyards, which produce the famous Lanzarote wines, differ greatly from any vineyards you have seen in the past. Each vine is surrounded by a circle of stones and lies in a hollow of volcanic soil and picon. Take your camera with you as no one at home will believe your description of the area.
Puerto Calero
This beautiful marina was designed and built by the brothers calero, restaurant line the sea front and there are some shops. Situated between Puerto Del Carmen and Playa Quemada.
Haria
Also known as the valley of the thousand Palms, this village is steeped in tradition. It is said that long ago when a child was born a palm tree was planted two if it was a boy. Right in the centre of the valley is a quaint town with bars and restaurant
